Your Itinerary

Mecklenburg-West Pomerania

(Pass by)

On your transfer from Rostock to Berlin you will pass through the land of 1000 lakes, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. You will see many of these lakes from the road, as well as bright yellow fields of rape (in May and June). Transfer is about 2 hours.

Charlottenburg Palace

As you enter Berlin the first stop will be Charlottenburg Palace. Your guide will join you here. Charlottenburg Palace is the most beautiful palace built by the Hohenzollern, it's named for Sophie Charlotte, wife of Frederic I who was crowned king in Prussia in 1800.

Kurfurstendamm

(Pass by)

Kurfürstendamm is the world's largest boulevard. It used to be the center of Berlin night-life in the roaring 1920s, and was also the main shopping street in West-Berlin. Today it is once again a place where tourists and Berliners alike like to come to dine, have coffee, shop, see a play, or just stroll.

Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe)

The KaDeWe ist the largest department store in continental Europe, and probably the most exquisite also. On your tour of Berlin you can chose a couple of longer stops: this could be one of them.

Topography of Terror

There are several things to see here: the former SS and Gestapo-headquarters are now a memorial and documentation center. At the same time you can see an original stretch of the Berlin Wall.

Checkpoint Charlie

Who hasn't heard of Checkpoint Charlie, the border point where Allied Soldiers were able to move from West to East Berlin, and back. Once US and Sovjet tanks faced each other, today you can see a replica of the guard house and the sign "You are now leaving the American Sector."

The Holocaust Memorial - Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

This haunting memorial by Peter Eisenmann is one of the highlights of Berlin, right next to the Brandenburg Gate and the US Embassy.

Potsdamer Platz

The Berlin used to divide East and West right here. At the time the once lively square was a waste land. Today it is once again the center of Berlin, with lots of highrises hotels, movie theaters and shops.

Gendarmenmarkt

A beautiful square with the French and German domes at either side, and the 19th century theater building by Schinkel in the center.

Reichstag Building

The Reichstag was where Hitler rose to power, but after only a couple of weeks, a fire destryed much of the building, and so the building was not used during the Third Reich at all. It was thus an easy choice to make this poignant building the seat of the German parliament after 1990. If you want to go up to the roof, please let us know in advance so we can reserve a time slot (you will have to give us your full name and date of birth, and bring ID).

Brandenburg Gate

Germany's most famous landmark, site of Hitler's march of torches, of the death strip between the Berlin Wall, and of Reagan's famous "Tear down this Wall" speech.

Alexanderplatz

(Pass by)

Drive on Unter den Linden, past the Opera, the New Guard House and the New Humboldt Forum (Hohenzollern Palace rebuilt) to come to Alexanderplatz, the large square with Germany's tallest building: the TV tower.

My parents and I took a Baltic Cruise which stops at Warnemünde, we’d like to go to Berlin for sightseeing, but my dad is 82, it’s not practical to go with big tour group. Luckily we found Jo’s team. The arrangement was hassle free, from the picking up from the port to the guided tour in the city, every detail was perfect. Our driver and guide were both professional and knowledgeable. We had great time there. Thank you 😊

Wonderful tour with the guide being very informative. We visited all the places to see. We had a lovely lunch at the rooftop restaurant (at own expense). Everything was perfect.

Our driver picked us up from our cruise port in Warnemunde perfectly on time, and our guide Luca met us as soon as we reached Berlin. He was very well informed, and managed to show us all the important places in the city even in the few hours we had there.

Warnemuende (Berlin) was one of the stops on our nine day Baltic cruise, so we decided to book a tour through A Friend in Berlin. Our group of 21 people spoke Chinese, so Cuiha was the perfect guide to help us navigate through the city. We were picked up and dropped of from the port in a timely manner, with plenty of time to spare before our ship departed. Overall, we really enjoyed the tour and recommend it to anyone making a stop in Berlin!
