What to expect
Docklands
You will learn about the history of Melbourne's most innovative suburb, the recently developed Docklands. What used to be docks and railyards is today a high rise residential area as well as commercial and entertainment precinct. There is a lot more to the story though!
We will drive through the working docks area of West Melbourne. You will see massive ships being loaded and unloaded, as well as great views of the skyscrapers of the Melbourne CBD.
Scienceworks
The scienceworks buildings are of heritage significance. They used to house the old pumping station which was an important part of Melbourne's sanitation system. The buildings are also famous as a location where the Halls of Justice were filmed in the Australian classic, MAD MAX. If you watched this movie, you will want to see this location.
Gem Pier
Although the pier is only quite short, it does give you some excellent views of the nearby yachts, cargo ships as they enter in port, and the skyline of the city, which is across the bay.
Nelson Place
This is the historic commercial precinct of the suburb and the location where you will be able to choose two scoops of ice-cream from a huge selection. We will eat the ice-cream in the local park that is known for its great views of the bay and the city.
Williamstown Beach
Very close to this local beach is the secret boat harbour. Excellent views of the bay.
Williamstown Botanic Gardens
A very beautiful botanical gardens.
