We will meet you at the Excursions Hub and transport you in our van to Hoonah (a 5-minute drive), where you will board the boat for your whale and wildlife tour. After returning to the harbor, you'll be met by the van and driven back to Icy Strait Point.

The staff is very kind, informative, very well organised. The ship is very clean. We saw some whales - tales, backs, not a whole one. They spend sufficient time on water and go to different spots. I recommand this company and this tour! Thank you!

The trip was amazing, the 2 crew - father and son, were so personable and friendly. They were knowledgeable, very safety conscious and gave us an exceptional tour. The whales were a bit inactive on our tour but great effort was made to seek out more activities. We still saw plenty of whales. Excellent day. I would recommend the tour to anyone who is interested in a more personal experience.

This is a family-owned and run business, with the two sons running the whale tours. It was a very quaint and personalized tour. They knew there were at least 15 whales in a certain area, which we followed for about an hour, watching them swim, play, and spout. We had asked about brown bears, and they took us to an area where we watched 2 bears playing. They were incredibly knowledgable not only about the whales, bears, and seals, but also the area. We had an incredible time with them!!! I cannot recommend this tour enough for a family looking to make incredible memories together!!

We were picked up at the meeting place (Icy Strait Point) and driven to Hoonah, where we met the boat. There were only 12 or 13 of us on the boat, plus the pilot and mate. We saw so many whales and had an absolutely wonderful time! Most of the people who do the whale watching tours know each other in this area, and they share information with each other. Our pilot and mate knew so much about the area and behavior of the whales, and shared so much information. We highly recommend this tour, and would do it again if ever in the area!

We absolutely loved this tour! Casey and Jonathan were both excellent and the boat was the perfect size and configuration for great whale watching both inside and out. They also had water and snacks - which was such a nice touch. We saw a lot of humpback whales (even a mom with her baby and a breach), bald eagles, otters, and a seal or two. Such a great morning with Glacier Wind Charters!

I have taken many Whale Watching Excursions over the years cruising to Alaska. Juneau has always been pretty much a bust for me with lousy weather and nothing but seeing a Humpback Whale hump, a plume of air/water mist or it's tail as it's going back down for a long dive. Sitka has proven to be better with more Humpback Whale activity but again the weather can be iffy. Never did see any real feeding. Again, plumes of air/water, some surface traveling and of course lots of tails prior to making a deep dive. This was our first time going to Icy Strait Point Hoonah, Alaska. I pre-booked a charter with Glacier Wind Charters and it was the best whale watching excursion EVER. Casey was the skipper of the APOGEE. He and his deckhand were personable, informative and very professional with passenger safety always first on their mind. Although the weather could have been a little nicer....but it's Alaska so if it's not raining it's a good day. It was a three hour excursion and Humpback Whales were plentiful. Also lots of Eagles and some Sea Lions from time to time. As we pulled out of the harbor there was a Humpback Whale feeding really close to one of the cruise ships at the pier. Skipper Casey said the whales have learned that when the cruise ships are in port the herring will follow along the side of the ships to open water....where the whales will be waiting to feed. The highlight was when we came upon a Humpback Whale feeding next to shore along the kelp line. Casey said the water was only 40' deep and the whale being 40' in length....did not leave much room between the surface and bottom. That being said we watched for some time as this massive mammal worked it's way back and forth foraging for herring. PRETTY DARN AMAZING to me. If you ever cruise to Icy Strait Point, book with Glacier Wind Charters and book early.

Glacier Winds What an amazing whale watching excursion. From the moment we booked the excursion on the website until we were brought back to the cruise terminal, everything was smooth sailing (or boating). We were shuttled from the Icy Straight Point Excursion Hub to their dock in Hoonah. As we drove to the dock we were given a great narrative of the city of Hoonah. On the boat, Casey and Jonathan ensured safety was their top priority. Within minutes of leaving the dock we starting seeing humpbacks. Casey and Jonathan knew exactly where to go, they could tell when the whales would breach and were able to get us in a great position to get amazing photos. We also saw some adorable otters just playing and relaxing in the water. We saw wildlife almost the entire time we were out on the island The boat was very comfortable and spacious. You can walk around the outside of the boat with a lot of room. They had a lot of quality binoculars onboard for us all to use. Highly recommend Glacier Wind Charters.

We were so happy with this whale watching excursion. The small boat was clean and held 10-12 people. It was fully enclosed so we could stay out of the wind/rain and cold if needed, although the weather our day was good. It also has a nice, clean bathroom. They had hot chocolate on board which was much appreciated! Casey was a young, knowledgeable captain who has grown up in Hoonah. We saw so many humpback whales, one of the highlights of our cruise to Alaska. It is a family run business, perfect from start to finish. Do not hesitate to book this excursion, so much better than seeing whales with 250 people on a big boat.

I can't say enough good things about Glacier Winds Charters! The small boat experience is amazing. Captain Shawn and Kyle were great. They have lived in Alaska for years and are very knowledgeable on the area and wildlife. We were able to see several whales and wildlife during our tour. This was our second trip with Glacier Winds, and we will definitely book them again if we return to Hoonah.

Great time. Highly recommend! Local family run business with years of experience. Many tours were cancelled due to heavy seas but our young skipper showed us a whale show.
