Island Escapes and Thermal Bliss
Today was all about embracing the natural wonders of Con Dao, a perfect blend of serene landscapes and unique experiences. Daniel and I set out to explore Hòn Bảy Cạnh and Bãi Suối Nóng, eager to discover what these hidden gems had to offer. As a software developer, I always appreciate a good escape into nature, and Con Dao continues to deliver on that front.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Quán Cơm Su Su. It's always a delight to find a local spot that offers authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and this place didn't disappoint. I had a fragrant rice plate with grilled pork, while Daniel opted for a comforting bowl of pho. Fuelled up, we were ready for our adventure to Hòn Bảy Cạnh.
Hòn Bảy Cạnh, also known as Turtle Island, is the second largest island in the Con Dao archipelago. To get there, we took a speedboat, which was an exhilarating experience in itself. The island is named for its seven sandy beaches that form a polygon shape. As we approached, the lush greenery and pristine beaches were a sight to behold. The island is known for its rich coral reefs and diverse marine life, making it a prime spot for snorkeling and diving.
Our first activity was snorkeling. I was so excited to explore the underwater world, and Hòn Bảy Cạnh did not disappoint. The coral reefs were vibrant and teeming with colorful fish. Daniel, who is always up for an adventure, was equally thrilled. We swam alongside schools of fish, marveling at the intricate coral formations. It was like entering another world, one filled with beauty and tranquility. I even spotted a hawksbill turtle, which was an unforgettable moment.
Nature always wears the colors of the spirit.
After our snorkeling adventure, we visited the mangrove forest, home to the land crab. It was fascinating to see these creatures in their natural habitat. The mangrove ecosystem was so unique, and it was a reminder of the importance of preserving these natural environments. We learned about the sea turtle conservation efforts on the island, which was truly inspiring. The island is a significant nesting site for sea turtles, and witnessing their efforts to protect these creatures was heartwarming.
Next on our itinerary was Bãi Suối Nóng, or Hot Springs Beach. After our morning of marine adventures, the idea of relaxing in therapeutic hot springs was incredibly appealing. To get there, we took a scenic route through the island, enjoying the lush landscapes and fresh air.

Bãi Suối Nóng is a hidden gem known for its soothing hot springs, which are said to have therapeutic properties. The hot springs are created by a stream of warm water with a temperature of around 50°C at its source, nestled deep within the forest. As the water flows towards the sea, it cools down, making it safe and comfortable for visitors to bathe in. The beach itself is stunning, with white sand and clear blue waters.
We spent a couple of hours soaking in the warm waters, letting the therapeutic properties soothe our muscles. The surrounding greenery added to the serene atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for relaxation. Daniel and I chatted about our experiences so far, reflecting on the beauty and tranquility of Con Dao. I couldn't help but feel grateful for this escape from our busy lives in Bristol.
For lunch, we decided to try MAY BISTRO. This bistro offered a delightful mix of Vietnamese and international cuisine. I opted for a fresh seafood salad, while Daniel chose a classic burger. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was relaxed and inviting.

In the late afternoon, we took some time to explore Côn Đảo Gift, a local shop that celebrates the culture and beauty of the islands. I love finding unique souvenirs that reflect the local heritage, and this shop had plenty to offer. From handmade textiles to local snacks, it was a treasure trove of authentic Vietnamese products. I picked up a few small trinkets for our friends back home and a beautiful scarf with traditional Kazakh patterns for myself.

As the day drew to a close, we headed to Quán Tri Kỷ for dinner. This charming two-story restaurant is known for its fresh seafood and inviting open-air setting. We chose a selection of seafood dishes, including grilled shrimp, steamed clams, and a whole fish cooked in a clay pot. The flavors were incredible, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. It was the perfect way to end our day of exploration.

Reflecting on our day, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the experiences we had. Con Dao continues to surprise and delight me with its natural beauty and unique attractions. From the vibrant marine life at Hòn Bảy Cạnh to the therapeutic hot springs at Bãi Suối Nóng, it was a day filled with wonder and serenity. As we head into tomorrow, we plan to visit Mũi Cá Mập (Shark Cape) and the Hang Duong Cemetery, offering a blend of natural beauty and historical reflection. Afterwards, we plan to have breakfast at Quán Én Tô, lunch at Nhà hàng Phố Biển, and dinner at Nhà Hàng Bến Cảng - Seafood Restaurant. And if we have time, we might check out the Sea sense bar and grill.
Before heading back to our accommodation, we took a moment to appreciate the peaceful night sky. The stars were bright, and the air was filled with the sounds of the ocean. It was a perfect end to a perfect day. I'm so glad Daniel and I decided to embark on this adventure together. As a Kazakh woman living in the UK, experiencing the natural beauty of Vietnam is something I will always cherish. Until tomorrow, xin chào from Con Dao!
