Today was a day of immersing myself in the heart of Tilcara, a town that continues to captivate me with its blend of natural beauty and artistic spirit. From exploring a unique botanical garden to indulging in the local flavors, every moment felt like a step deeper into the soul of this Argentinian gem. It's days like these that remind me why I love solo travel – the freedom to wander, discover, and savor every experience at my own pace.

My day began with a delightful breakfast at La Damajuana Restobar. The aroma of freshly baked bread and strong coffee filled the air, instantly waking me up and preparing me for the day's adventures. I opted for a traditional Argentinian breakfast: medialunas (sweet croissants) and a café con leche. It was the perfect way to start the day, fueling me up for a morning of exploration.

With a spring in my step, I headed to the Altura Botanical Garden, nestled within the Pucará de Tilcara. The garden is located at 2580 meters above sea level. As I wandered through the garden's winding paths, I was immediately struck by the incredible diversity of plant life. The garden showcases plant species from the Puna and the Quebrada de Humahuaca. From towering cacti to delicate wildflowers, each plant seemed to tell a story of resilience and adaptation. The informational plaques scattered throughout the garden provided fascinating insights into the unique characteristics and uses of each species.

I'd heard so much about his vibrant and expressive artwork, and I was eager to see it for myself.

I opted for the menu of the day, starting with a comforting soup followed by a flavorful beef stew. It felt like a warm hug from the inside out, and I savored every last bite.

As I sipped my wine and savored the delicious tapas, I reflected on the day's adventures. Tilcara had once again exceeded my expectations, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, artistic inspiration, and culinary delights. I felt grateful for the opportunity to experience this unique corner of the world, and I knew that I would carry the memories of this day with me long after I left.

Tomorrow, I plan to hike up Cerro de la Cruz for panoramic views of the town and visit Mirador del auto destrozado, a unique viewpoint with a wrecked car. I also intend to visit Hilandería Warmi - Tilcara, a textile shop. I'm excited to see what new adventures await me in this enchanting town.

Back at my guesthouse, I realized I still hadn’t replaced the sunscreen I forgot to pack. Note to self: add that to tomorrow’s shopping list!
