A Day of Discovery in Chapada
Today marked the beginning of my solo adventure in Chapada dos Guimarães National Park, and what a start it has been! As a librarian with a passion for art history and a deep appreciation for nature, I couldn't wait to explore the unique landscapes and connect with the local culture. The day unfolded like a beautifully written novel, each chapter filled with breathtaking sights and delightful experiences.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurant Windy Hill. The location of the restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience, blending top-tier service, generous portions, and an elegant atmosphere. The staff was super polite, efficient, and attentive to every detail. I savored a traditional Brazilian breakfast while taking in the panoramic views of the Chapada. The vistas were simply stunning. I could see the rolling hills in the distance as the sun began its ascent. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploring. The temperature was pleasant, with highs around 84°F, making it ideal for outdoor activities.

After breakfast, I set off to visit the iconic Cachoeira Véu de Noiva (Bridal Veil Waterfall). The drive was easy, with only about 3 kilometers on a dirt road. As I approached, I could hear the water cascading down, creating a soothing melody. The waterfall is easily accessible and is a breathtaking natural wonder located just outside the city. The entrance to the falls had a bar and even a natural water slide.
Nature's beauty is a gift, and Chapada dos Guimarães has an abundance of it.I spent a good amount of time at the Mirante da Cachoeira do Véu de Noiva, the viewpoint that offers the best perspective of the falls. The 650-meter trail to the mirante was sunny, with a few slopes. The view was absolutely stunning, with lush green mountains surrounding the water. The waterfall itself was a sight to behold, with its elegant cascade resembling a bride's veil. I took countless photos, trying to capture the beauty of the moment. I also took some time to observe the molds and casts of marine animals along the trail, remnants from when the region was underwater. It was like stepping back in time, connecting with the area's ancient history.

For lunch, I decided to try the Restaurante Véu De Noiva, conveniently located near the waterfall. The restaurant offers a pleasant place for visitors who want to enjoy a meal after exploring the area. The portions are generous, and the prices are fair. I opted for the *mojica de pintado*, a local fish stew that was absolutely delicious. It was the perfect way to refuel after my morning hike. The restaurant was quite busy, and the service was a bit slow.

In the late afternoon, I made a stop at Art'inPedra, a local shop known for its unique stone art. I wanted to find a souvenir that would remind me of my time in Chapada dos Guimarães. The shop was filled with beautiful creations, from small trinkets to larger sculptures. I ended up buying a small, hand-carved stone bird, a perfect memento of my first day.

As the day drew to a close, I headed to Restaurante Penhasco for dinner. I had heard great things about its regional cuisine and stunning views. The restaurant is located in Pousada Penhasco, which offers a romantic setting and is known for its proximity to great restaurants. The food was exceptional. I savored every bite while enjoying the panoramic vista. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with exploration and wonder.

Reflecting on my first day, I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to experience the natural beauty and local culture of Chapada dos Guimarães. It's a place that truly nourishes the soul, reminding me of the importance of connecting with nature and embracing new experiences. I am already looking forward to tomorrow's adventure, which includes visiting Stone City and the High Heaven Lookout. I've heard that Stone City's rock formations are incredible, resembling the ruins of an ancient city. And I’m excited to see the panoramic views from the High Heaven Lookout. I might even stop by Dona Alice Cerveja Artesanal for a local craft beer. It’s supposed to be a great place to relax and enjoy the local flavors.
As I settle in for the night, I'm filled with anticipation for what tomorrow will bring. Chapada dos Guimarães has already captured my heart, and I can't wait to see what other hidden gems it has in store. Perhaps I'll even try to practice a few Italian phrases with the locals, sharing a piece of my heritage with them.
I am so happy that I decided to come on this solo trip, it's exactly what I needed to recharge and get inspired. I am also glad that Jean-Pierre supported my decision to come alone, even though I miss him and Sofia dearly.
