As our Oaxaca adventure draws to a close, it’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown. Today was all about soaking in the last drops of this vibrant city, revisiting some favorite spots, and discovering a few new gems along the way. With Priya, Aarav, and I all feeling a tinge of sadness, we set out to make the most of our final day in Oaxaca.

Our morning began with a delightful breakfast at El Morocco. It was a cozy start to the day, reminiscent of the comforting flavors of home, albeit with a Oaxacan twist. I opted for their take on a traditional Mauritian breakfast, while Priya enjoyed a classic Oaxacan hot chocolate. Aarav, ever adventurous, tried a bit of everything, declaring the pastries his favorite. The warm atmosphere and friendly service made it the perfect place to gather our thoughts before venturing out for the day's explorations.

After breakfast, we decided to immerse ourselves in a bit of history with a visit to the Exconvento De Santa Catalina De Siena. The ex-convent was a fascinating blend of architectural styles, reflecting its long and varied history. As we wandered through the courtyards and corridors, I couldn't help but imagine the lives of the nuns who once called this place home. Priya, with her nursing background, was particularly interested in the building's time as a hospital, while Aarav was captivated by the stories of hidden tunnels and secret passages. The ex-convent was not only a feast for the eyes but also a poignant reminder of Oaxaca's rich cultural heritage.

Next on our itinerary was a visit to the Auditorio Guelaguetza. Although there wasn't a performance scheduled for today, we still wanted to see this iconic venue, known for hosting the annual Guelaguetza festival. As we climbed the steps to the top, we were rewarded with panoramic views of Oaxaca and the surrounding valleys. Aarav, with his boundless energy, ran around exploring every nook and cranny, while Priya and I simply stood in awe of the breathtaking scenery. It was a moment of quiet reflection, a chance to appreciate the beauty and grandeur of this remarkable city.

The food was equally impressive, a symphony of flavors and textures that celebrated the region's culinary heritage. I savored the complex notes of the mole negro, while Priya opted for a lighter seafood dish. Aarav, of course, couldn't resist the quesadillas, declaring them the best he'd ever tasted. In the afternoon, we decided to indulge in some retail therapy at La Cosecha Organic Market. This charming market was a treasure trove of local produce, artisanal crafts, and delicious street food. We wandered through the stalls, sampling everything from fresh juices to handmade chocolates. Aarav was particularly fascinated by the colorful array of fruits and vegetables, while Priya was drawn to the intricate textiles and pottery. I, of course, couldn't resist stocking up on Oaxacan coffee and spices to take back home. The market was not only a great place to find unique souvenirs but also a vibrant hub of local culture and community.

As the day drew to a close, we treated ourselves to a final Oaxacan dinner at Tr3s 3istro Restaurant & Oyster Bar. This elegant restaurant, located in the heart of the city, offered a sophisticated take on traditional Oaxacan cuisine. We started with a selection of fresh oysters, followed by a variety of seafood and meat dishes. The food was exquisite, each dish a work of art in its own right. The service was impeccable, the staff attentive and knowledgeable. As we savored our final meal in Oaxaca, we couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the incredible experiences we'd shared as a family.

Now, as I sit here reflecting on our time in Oaxaca, I can't help but feel a mix of emotions. Sadness that our adventure is coming to an end, but also gratitude for the incredible memories we've created. Oaxaca has truly captured our hearts, with its vibrant culture, delicious cuisine, and warm hospitality. It's a place that we'll always cherish, a place that we'll always long to return to. As an immigration consultant, I've always been fascinated by the intersection of cultures and traditions. Oaxaca, with its rich blend of indigenous and Spanish influences, has provided me with a unique perspective on the human experience.

Looking back on this trip, I realize how much it has enriched our family. We've learned about a new culture, tried new foods, and explored new places. But more importantly, we've grown closer as a family, sharing experiences that we'll treasure for a lifetime. As we prepare to leave Oaxaca tomorrow and head back to Toronto, I know that we'll be taking a piece of this magical city with us, a piece that will stay in our hearts forever. The warmth of the Oaxacan people, the vibrant colors of the markets, and the delicious flavors of the cuisine will always be a part of who we are.

And while this chapter of our journey may be coming to an end, I know that there are many more adventures waiting for us on the road ahead. As Mauritians by birth, Priya and I have always instilled a sense of curiosity and adventure in Aarav, encouraging him to explore the world and embrace new experiences.
