Solo Adventure to Chapada Diamantina: A Nature Lover's Dream

A Day of Nature's Embrace

My day began, as usual, with a simple breakfast at my campsite within Chapada Diamantina National Park. There's something incredibly grounding about starting the day surrounded by nature, even if it's just a quick bite before setting off. After packing my essentials – water, a few snacks, and of course, my camera – I set out for Cachoeira do Sossego. The name itself, meaning 'Waterfall of Tranquility,' promised a peaceful escape, and I was eager to see if it lived up to its name.

The trail to Cachoeira do Sossego is known for being challenging, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The hike started from Lençóis and stretched about 8 km in total. It wasn't just a walk in the park; it involved navigating rocky paths, crossing the riverbed of the Rio Ribeirão, and clambering over stones. Some sources mention that this trail is considered difficult, especially for those not used to steep hikes, and recommend going with a guide due to the presence of stones and road forks, especially at the beginning. Despite the challenges, the landscape was incredibly rewarding. Lush vegetation, towering cliffs, and the constant sound of rushing water kept me motivated. I even passed remnants of old diamond mining operations, a stark reminder of the region's history.

After about three hours of trekking, I finally reached Cachoeira do Sossego. The waterfall was hidden in a valley of canyons, and the sight of the water cascading down was truly breathtaking. Poço Encantado is a cave with crystal-clear turquoise waters, known for the ethereal glow created by sunlight filtering through the foliage. The pool’s unique color is especially mesmerizing in the afternoon light, creating a breathtaking landscape that feels like a slice of paradise.

Swimming in Poço Encantado was an otherworldly experience. The water was cool and clear, and the sunlight created a magical ambiance within the cave. Sipping on a cold beer in the lush, inviting atmosphere of the beer garden, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the experiences I had today.

The evening was spent back at my campsite, enjoying a quiet dinner under the stars. I cooked a simple meal, savoring each bite as I reflected on the day's events. The sounds of the forest lulled me into a peaceful sleep, and I drifted off dreaming of waterfalls and enchanted pools.

Thinking about the contrast between my life here and back in Berlin, I can't help but smile. While I miss Hans and the comforts of our apartment, this solo journey is exactly what I needed. The independence, the challenges, and the sheer beauty of nature have been incredibly revitalizing. As a geriatric nurse, I'm used to caring for others, but this trip is allowing me to focus on myself and my own well-being. It's a reminder that self-care is not selfish; it's essential.

I also intend to visit MUNDO NATURAL, a local shop, to pick up some souvenirs. Perhaps I’ll find a small trinket to remind me of this incredible journey when I return to Berlin.
