Whispers of the Past

Today was a day of reaching new heights, both literally and figuratively, as Liam and I delved deeper into the heart of the Sacred Valley. We explored ancient ruins and chased the setting sun, allowing ourselves to be enveloped by the echoes of the Inca civilization. Each stone seemed to whisper stories of a time long past, and I found myself reflecting on the enduring spirit of the Andes.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Casa Colonial Restaurante & Bar in Urubamba. I opted for the organic salad, while Liam chose a more traditional Peruvian dish. Fuelled up, we set off to explore the archaeological site of Pinkuylluna, perched high above Ollantaytambo. The climb was invigorating, with the crisp mountain air filling our lungs and the stunning views unfolding with every step. I made sure to have my hiking boots on, as suggested in my trip essentials.

As we ascended, the landscape transformed, revealing the ingenuity and resilience of the Inca people. The stone structures seemed to grow out of the mountainside, blending seamlessly with the natural environment. I couldn't help but marvel at the precision and skill required to build such a complex site in such a challenging location.

Reaching the summit of Pinkuylluna, we were rewarded with panoramic views of the Sacred Valley. The patchwork of fields, the meandering Urubamba River, and the towering peaks of the Andes created a scene of breathtaking beauty. I took out my camera and snapped a few photos, trying to capture the essence of this magical place. I love how Pinkuylluna offers such amazing views of Ollantaytambo. Liam pointed out the various archaeological sites scattered across the valley floor, each with its own unique story to tell. We spent some time exploring the ruins, imagining what life must have been like for the people who once inhabited this ancient fortress.

The stones whisper stories of resilience, ingenuity, and a profound connection to the natural world.

After descending from Pinkuylluna, we drove towards Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, another iconic site in the Sacred Valley. The hike to Inti Punku was more challenging than Pinkuylluna, but the promise of witnessing a spectacular sunset kept us motivated. The trail wound its way through lush vegetation and rocky terrain, offering glimpses of snow-capped mountains in the distance. The air was filled with the scent of eucalyptus and wildflowers, creating a sensory feast for the senses.

As we climbed higher, the sun began its descent, casting a golden glow over the landscape. The light danced across the terraced hillsides and illuminated the ancient stone walls, creating a scene of ethereal beauty. Reaching Inti Punku, we were greeted with a sight that took our breath away. The setting sun painted the sky in hues of orange, pink, and purple, as it dipped below the horizon. The light streamed through the Sun Gate, casting long shadows across the valley and creating a sense of awe and wonder.

We sat in silence, soaking in the beauty of the moment and feeling grateful for the opportunity to witness such a spectacle. It was a reminder of the power and majesty of nature, and the importance of preserving these ancient sites for future generations. Inti Punku is more than just a collection of stones; it's a portal to another time, a place where the past and present converge. It's a reminder of the ingenuity and resilience of the Inca people, and their deep connection to the natural world. It's a place where you can feel the energy of the sun, the wind, and the earth, and connect with something larger than yourself.

After the sun had set, we made our way back down the mountain, our hearts filled with joy and gratitude. The darkness added a sense of mystery to the landscape, and we felt like we were walking through a dream. Back in Urubamba, we treated ourselves to a well-deserved dinner at Hacienda Huayoccari. The restaurant was beautiful, and the food was delicious. The hacienda itself felt like stepping back in time. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the staff made us feel like royalty. I tried the alpaca loin, while Liam opted for the Andean trout. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. I made sure to take some food photos for my blog, remembering my camera from my trip essentials.

Before heading back to our accommodation, we decided to stop by Saqras Resto Bar Urubamba for a nightcap. The bar had a lively atmosphere, and we enjoyed chatting with the locals and sipping on some Pisco Sours. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day.

Reflecting on the day, I realized that the Sacred Valley is more than just a collection of ancient ruins and stunning landscapes. It's a place where you can connect with the past, immerse yourself in nature, and discover the magic of the Andes. It's a place that will stay with you long after you've left, inspiring you to explore, learn, and appreciate the beauty of our world.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore the Temple of the Moon and Qorikancha, continuing our journey through the Sacred Valley's rich history and culture. I'm also hoping to find some unique souvenirs at Guzz Alpaca. I’m excited to see what new adventures await us as we continue our exploration of this enchanting region. It is also worth noting that the Lord of Torrechayoc festival, which is a significant religious event in Urubamba, might be taking place this month, adding another layer of cultural richness to our visit.

As I write this, I'm filled with a sense of gratitude for the experiences we've had today. The Sacred Valley has a way of captivating your heart and soul, leaving you with memories that will last a lifetime. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings as we continue our journey through this magical land. Good night from Peru!
