Sydney's Surprises: From Wildlife to Wonderlands

Day two in Sydney was nothing short of enchanting. It was a day where the ordinary transformed into the extraordinary, filled with delightful surprises and unforgettable moments. From the captivating wildlife at Taronga Zoo Sydney to the serene beauty of a secret garden and the nostalgic charm of Luna Park Sydney, Sydney continued to unveil its magic.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at The Sanderson Sydney. After a great breakfast we hopped on a ferry to Taronga Zoo Sydney. The ferry ride itself was a treat, offering stunning views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. It's moments like these that remind me why I love travelling with friends – sharing breathtaking sights and creating lasting memories together.

A Wild Start at Taronga Zoo

Taronga Zoo Sydney is more than just a place to see animals; it's an immersive experience. As soon as we stepped off the ferry, we were greeted by the sounds of exotic birds and playful monkeys. The zoo is cleverly designed, allowing for panoramic views of the harbor while showcasing animals from all over the world. We made our way through the African Savannah exhibit, where the majestic giraffes seemed to pose just for us against the backdrop of the city skyline.

One of the highlights was seeing the five African Lion Cubs. Apparently, the zoo welcomed a litter of five African Lion Cubs for the first time in 18 years! Watching the little ones play with their mother, Maya, was incredibly heartwarming. It's amazing to witness these creatures up close and learn about the conservation efforts that Taronga Zoo Sydney supports.

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.

After a morning of wildlife encounters, we were ready for lunch. We headed to Chin Chin, a popular spot known for its Southeast Asian cuisine. The vibrant atmosphere and delicious food were the perfect pick-me-up. I opted for the pulled pork bao buns, which were bursting with flavor and spice. Elodie tried the Pad See Ew and loved it. I think we will try to recreate it back home in Montreal!

Wendy's Whiteley's Secret Garden: A Tranquil Escape

After lunch, we sought out Wendy Whiteley's Secret Garden, a hidden gem in Lavender Bay. This place is truly special. Created by Wendy Whiteley, the wife of Australian artist Brett Whiteley, the garden is a testament to love, loss, and healing. As we wandered through the winding paths, we were surrounded by lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and quirky sculptures. It felt like stepping into a living painting.

The garden offered breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour, the Harbour Bridge, and the Opera House. It was a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, a place where we could reflect and appreciate the beauty of nature. I took some time to sit on one of the benches, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere and feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience such a unique place. I even spotted a few colorful parrots flitting through the trees – a reminder of the vibrant life that thrives in this urban oasis.

A Night of Nostalgia at Luna Park

As evening approached, we made our way to Luna Park Sydney. This iconic amusement park is like stepping back in time, with its vintage rides, dazzling lights, and carnival atmosphere. The giant smiling face at the entrance is instantly recognizable and sets the tone for an evening of fun and excitement.

We rode the Ferris wheel, which offered stunning views of the harbor at night. The twinkling lights of the city reflected on the water, creating a magical scene. We also braved the Wild Mouse roller coaster, which was surprisingly thrilling. Elodie even managed to win a stuffed animal at one of the carnival games – a perfect souvenir from our day of adventures.

Before leaving Luna Park Sydney, we decided to have dinner at Bennelong, located within the Sydney Opera House. The restaurant's stunning architecture and world-class cuisine made for a memorable dining experience. I enjoyed the Australian lamb, which was cooked to perfection. Elodie chose the seafood platter, which was fresh and flavorful. The service was impeccable, and the ambiance was sophisticated and elegant.

A Sweet Ending and Anticipation for Tomorrow

To cap off the evening, we indulged in some delicious gelato at a nearby café. As we strolled back to our hotel, we reflected on the incredible day we had experienced. Sydney had once again exceeded our expectations, offering a perfect blend of nature, culture, and adventure.

Tomorrow, we're planning to explore the underwater world at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, delve into maritime history at the Australian National Maritime Museum, and get up close and personal with celebrities at Madame Tussauds Sydney. We might even grab a drink at Eau De Vie, a bar I've heard great things about. I'm excited to see what new adventures await us as we continue our exploration of this amazing city.

Before heading back to the hotel, we did some shopping at the Queen Victoria Building. It was nice to see some local products and Elodie found a nice dress for herself.

Until tomorrow!

I'm so glad I remembered to pack my camera for this trip. Capturing these memories is something I'll treasure forever. However, I am still regretting forgetting my universal power adapter and umbrella. A quick stop at a store tomorrow is a must!
