Solo Eco-Adventure in Morocco's Dades Valley
Day 9: Dades Valley's Dramatic Finale: Gorges, Gardens, and Goodbyes
A final day of Moroccan marvels: Exploring Miguirne Gorge, canyon views, local shops, and savoring Berber cuisine in Dades Valley.
Farewell to the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs
As my final day in the Dades Valley dawned, I felt a familiar pang of bittersweetness. This solo eco-adventure had been everything I'd hoped for and more – a chance to immerse myself in the raw beauty of Morocco, connect with its people, and reflect on my own place in the world. I knew today would be filled with last glimpses and lingering tastes of this magical place.
I started my day with breakfast at CAFE RESTAURANT ROOFTOP ATLAS DADES. As the sun climbed higher, painting the valley in hues of gold and ochre, I enjoyed a traditional Moroccan breakfast. The rooftop setting offered a stunning panoramic view of the Atlas Mountains, a perfect backdrop for contemplating the adventures that lay ahead today. Fortified with mint tea and local bread, I set off to explore the Gorge Miguirne.

The Gorge Miguirne was a hidden gem that promised a refreshing hike amidst stunning rock formations and natural springs. I found myself scrambling over rocks, wading through shallow streams, and marveling at the towering canyon walls that seemed to whisper ancient stories. The cool air within the gorge was a welcome respite from the warming sun, and the sound of water trickling over stone created a soothing symphony. It was a relatively short hike, taking up a good half-day, but the experience was incredibly rewarding.
Sometimes, the most profound experiences are found in the quiet corners of the world, where nature speaks loudest.
After the invigorating hike, I made my way to Entrée du canyon for some breathtaking views.

The landscape opened up before me, revealing the vastness and grandeur of the Dades Valley. I spent a good hour simply soaking it all in, etching the scene into my memory. The play of light and shadow on the canyon walls was mesmerizing, and I felt a deep sense of gratitude for being able to witness such natural beauty. It was the perfect spot for some wildlife photography, even though I only managed to snap some pictures of birds soaring through the canyon.
For lunch, I decided to try Riad Restaurant Pizzeria Marhaba.

The restaurant was a delightful surprise, offering a fusion of Moroccan and Italian cuisine. I opted for a Berber pizza, a local specialty, and savored every bite. The combination of flavors was unique and satisfying, a testament to the culinary creativity of the region. The Riad itself was charming, with a beautiful garden and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive, making me feel right at home.
In the afternoon, I indulged in a bit of retail therapy at Queen Shop By Ami.

I wasn't necessarily looking for anything in particular, but I wanted to support the local economy and perhaps find a souvenir to remind me of my time in the Dades Valley. The shop was filled with colorful textiles, traditional clothing, and handmade crafts. I ended up buying a beautiful Berber scarf, its intricate patterns a reflection of the region's rich cultural heritage. The shop assistant was very helpful and friendly, and I was happy to support her business.
As the day drew to a close, I made my way to La famille kasbah for my final Moroccan dinner.

The kasbah was a stunning example of traditional Berber architecture, its earthen walls blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The restaurant offered a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the menu featured a variety of local specialties. I chose a tagine, slow-cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. As I savored each bite, I reflected on my journey through the Dades Valley, feeling a deep sense of contentment and gratitude.
Tomorrow marks the end of my eco-adventure in the Dades Valley. I'll be making my way back to Marrakesh, carrying with me a treasure trove of memories and experiences. This trip has not only been a feast for the eyes but also a journey for the soul, reaffirming my commitment to sustainable travel and cultural immersion. As I prepare to leave this enchanting valley, I know that a part of me will forever remain here, amidst the towering gorges, the verdant gardens, and the warm smiles of the Berber people. I can't wait to come back one day!
I'm particularly grateful I didn't forget my travel journal, as I've been diligently jotting down notes and observations throughout the trip. It's going to be great to look back on these memories in the years to come, perhaps while brewing a batch of mead with my own honey back in Hamburg. I'm also kicking myself for forgetting my portable solar charger; it would have come in handy during those long days of hiking. Oh well, lesson learned for the next adventure!
And with that, it's time to say *shukran* (thank you) and *ma'a as-salama* (goodbye) to the Dades Valley. Until next time!
Reflecting on my time here, I realize that eco-tourism isn't just about seeing beautiful places; it's about respecting them, supporting the local communities, and leaving as little impact as possible. It's a way of traveling that aligns with my values and allows me to connect with the world in a more meaningful way.
