From Broad Street, walk south on College Street. The library will be on your left. Enter the library and follow the signs to the cafe. No costs are associated with walking.

    The Gadsden Trolley System provides public transportation in Gadsden. Several routes serve the downtown area. Check the Gadsden Trolley website or app for the most up-to-date routes and schedules. From the 4th Street Transfer Station, the library is a short walk south on College Street.     The Beautiful Rainbow Cafe is located at 254 S College St in downtown Gadsden. From I-59, take exit 182 for US-431 toward Gadsden. Follow US-431 N/E Meighan Blvd into downtown. Turn left onto S 5th St, then turn left onto Broad St, then turn left onto S College St. The Gadsden Public Library will be on your right. Parking is available on the street or in nearby parking lots. Metered street parking costs $0.25 per hour, with a two-hour limit. Nearby parking lots charge approximately $5 per day.

    The Beautiful Rainbow Cafe is a unique and inspiring eatery located within the Gadsden Public Library. This isn't your typical cafe; it's a collaboration between the Gadsden City Schools, the City of Gadsden, and the Library, serving as a work-based learning program for students with significant cognitive disabilities. The cafe provides an unforgettable gourmet garden-to-table experience, offering fresh, organic, and vegetarian dishes. The menu features a variety of bistro entrees, soups, sandwiches, and pastries, with ingredients sourced locally, including from their own organic garden in Underwood Park across the street. Popular choices include the vegetarian crabcake on mixed greens, the grilled pimento cheese sandwich, and the corn and poblano pepper quesadilla. They also feature cold brew and French press coffees roasted by partner, Mama Mocha.The Beautiful Rainbow Cafe started as a project within a special education classroom at Litchfield Middle School, where teacher Chip Rowan used gardening to teach core subjects. Seeing the need for vocational training, Rowan developed a summer program and, with support from the Alabama Department of Education and the Gadsden Public Library, transformed a disused part of the library into the cafe in 2017.The cafe has received numerous accolades, including recognition from Governor Kay Ivey as the best K-12 work-based learning program in the state. More importantly, it has transformed the lives of its students, providing them with valuable skills, confidence, and opportunities for community-based employment. Graduates have gone on to work in other Gadsden restaurants, showcasing the program's success.When you visit the Beautiful Rainbow Cafe, you're not just enjoying a delicious meal; you're supporting a program that empowers young people and enriches the Gadsden community.
