Discover more about Highest Point in Alabama

Cheaha Mountain, often called Mount Cheaha, is the highest natural point in Alabama, rising to 2,407 feet (735 meters) above sea level. The mountain is located within Cheaha State Park, which adjoins the Talladega National Forest, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The name 'Cheaha' comes from the Creek Indian word 'Chaha,' meaning 'high place'. Cheaha State Park, established in 1933, is Alabama's oldest continuously operating state park. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) played a crucial role in developing the park, constructing roads, trails, cabins, and the iconic Bunker Tower. The Bunker Tower, built in 1935, stands as a testament to the CCC's craftsmanship and offers visitors a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape. Visitors can explore two museums within the park: the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum at Bunker Tower and the Walt Farr Native American Relic Museum. The CCC Museum showcases tools and items used by the CCC workers, while the Walt Farr Native American Relic Museum displays a collection of Native American artifacts. Cheaha Mountain offers a variety of activities and amenities, including hiking trails, scenic overlooks, a lake for swimming and fishing, and lodging options such as a hotel, chalets, and campsites. Popular trails include the Bald Rock Trail, a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk leading to stunning panoramic views, and the Pulpit Rock Trail, offering a steeper hike to a rocky outcropping with sensational views.
