Discover more about Toomer's Oaks

Toomer's Corner, located at the intersection of College Street and Magnolia Avenue, marks the transition from Auburn University's campus to downtown Auburn. It's named after Sheldon Toomer, a former Auburn halfback and state senator who founded Toomer's Drugs in 1896. The corner is famous for the tradition of 'rolling Toomer's Corner' after Auburn victories, where fans celebrate by throwing toilet paper onto the oak trees. Toomer's Drugs, a landmark since 1896, is an integral part of the Toomer's Corner experience. The drugstore is known for its fresh-squeezed lemonade and Auburn memorabilia. The tradition of rolling Toomer's Corner began when Toomer's Drugs had the only telegraph in the city. Employees would throw ticker tape onto the power lines to announce Auburn victories. Over time, ticker tape was replaced by toilet paper, and the oak trees became the target of the celebration. The original oak trees were poisoned in 2010 and had to be removed in 2013. New oak trees were planted in 2015 and again in 2017 after one was set on fire. The tradition continues with the new trees, and Toomer's Corner remains a gathering place for students, alumni, and visitors. In July 2025, a new traffic pattern was implemented to enhance pedestrian safety.
