Discover more about Llogara Pass

Llogara Pass (Qafa e Llogarasë) is a striking mountain pass within the Ceraunian Mountains, offering breathtaking views of the Albanian Riviera. Located within Llogara National Park, about 37 km southeast of Vlora, the pass is a crossroads of natural beauty and historical significance. At 1,027 meters (3,369 feet) above sea level, the pass connects the Dukat Valley to the north with Himarë to the south, offering panoramic vistas of the Ionian Sea, the Karaburun Peninsula, and even Corfu Island on clear days. The Llogara Pass is traversed by the SH8 highway, which winds through the mountains, providing access to the Albanian Riviera. The pass divides the mountains into western and eastern ranges, with the western chains known as the Acroceraunian Mountains. Llogara's history stretches back to 48 BC when Julius Caesar reportedly crossed the pass with his legions during the Roman Civil War. For centuries, the mountain range isolated the coast from the rest of Albania, but today, the pass is a popular tourist destination. The Llogara National Park, established in 1966, covers 10.1 square kilometers and protects the diverse flora and fauna of the region. Here you can find pine, fir, and ash forests, home to deer, wild boar, eagles, and woodpeckers. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, paragliding, and simply soaking in the scenery. The Flag Pine (Pisha e Flamurit), shaped by the wind, is a symbol of the park. Restaurants and hotels near the pass offer local specialties like yogurt with honey, lamb (Harapash), and mountain tea.
