Refugi de l'Angonella: A Mountain Haven

Nestled in the Ordino parish of Andorra, the Refugi de l'Angonella stands as a serene mountain shelter at an altitude of 2,235 meters (7,332 feet). Since its opening in 1989, this unguarded refuge has offered a simple yet inviting haven for hikers exploring the picturesque Angonella Valley. The refuge itself is modestly equipped with bunk beds and a fireplace, providing essential comfort for those seeking shelter from the elements. A nearby river serves as a source of fresh water. Maintained primarily during the summer, the refuge is cleaned and restocked with firewood and first-aid supplies. The surrounding Angonella Valley is renowned for its three stunning lakes: Estany de Més Avall, Estany del Mig, and Estany de Més Amunt. The hike to the refuge is considered moderately challenging, involving an elevation gain of 810 meters (2,657 feet) from Llorts. The trail meanders through pine forests and past old stone structures, offering glimpses into the region's rich cultural heritage. Mobile phone coverage is generally available in the area. Visitors can access the refuge via a 4.5-hour hike from Llorts, following the Angonella trail. This path winds through forests and eventually opens into a glacial valley, showcasing a landscape sculpted over millennia. The refuge has a capacity of six people.
