Discover more about Saint Julià and Saint Germà church

The Església de Sant Julià i Sant Germà, the most important church in the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria, stands as a testament to Andorra's rich cultural and religious heritage. Originally built in the Romanesque style, the church has undergone several renovations throughout the centuries, incorporating Baroque and modern architectural elements. The church's most striking feature is its well-preserved, three-story Lombard bell tower. Constructed in the 11th century, the tower is a classic example of Romanesque architecture, with its square shape, stone block construction, and arched windows. While modern constructions partially obscure the bell tower, it remains a remarkable sight. Inside, visitors can admire the beautiful mosaics created in May 2019 by Marko Ivan Rupnik, an internationally renowned artist. Rupnik's work, covering 200 square meters, adorns the main altar and presbytery, and includes a chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Canòlich, the patron saint of Sant Julià de Lòria. The mosaics depict a Christ Pantocrator and scenes of Jesus with the Evangelists, the Virgin Mary, and other significant figures. The church also houses Baroque altarpieces of Sant Julià and the Immaculate Conception, as well as two 12th-century carvings of the Virgin of Canòlich and the Virgin of Los Remedios. The church is a designated Site of Cultural Interest, and a guided tour is included in the Ronda Laurediana cultural itinerary.
