Discover more about Saint Julià and Saint Germà church

The Saint Julià and Saint Germà Church, the most important church in the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria, stands as a testament to Andorra's rich history and artistic evolution. Originally built in the Romanesque style, the church has undergone several renovations over the centuries, incorporating Baroque and modern elements. The church's most striking feature is its well-preserved, three-story Lombard bell tower, dating back to the 11th century. Constructed from regular stone blocks, the tower showcases a square and solid design typical of Lombard architecture. Inside, visitors can admire the baroque altarpieces of Sant Julià, the Immaculate Conception, and Sant Germà, as well as Romanesque carvings of the Virgin of Canòlich and the Virgin of Los Remedios. In May 2019, the internationally renowned artist Marko Ivan Rupnik, often called the "21st-century Michelangelo," completed 200 square meters of mosaics within the church. These vibrant mosaics adorn the main altar, presbytery, and a chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Canòlich, the patron saint of Sant Julià de Lòria. Rupnik's work depicts a Christ Pantocrator and scenes of Jesus surrounded by evangelists, the Virgin Mary, and other significant figures in Catholic iconography. The church is an active place of worship and a key stop on the Ronda Laurediana cultural itinerary. A guided tour is available upon request for a small fee.
