Getting There

• Walking

  From the central area of Luanda, head towards Avenida 4 de Fevereiro. Walk towards the waterfront, enjoying the views of the Atlantic Ocean. Continue straight until you reach Praça da República, a large square where you can see the National Assembly building. From there, proceed to Rua da Missão and walk uphill towards Calçada de São Miguel. Follow the signs pointing to the fortress, and you will reach the entrance of Fortaleza de São Miguel in approximately 20-25 minutes.

• Public Transportation (Minibus)

  Find a minibus heading towards Ingombota. These minibuses are usually marked with their destination on the front. Board the minibus and ask the conductor to let you know when you reach Ingombota. Once you get off, head towards Calçada de São Miguel, which is just a short walk away from the minibus stop. Follow the signs or ask locals for directions to the fortress, which should take about 10 minutes on foot.

• Taxi (Ride-hailing app)

  Use a ride-hailing app available in Luanda to request a taxi to 'Calçada de São Miguel'. Make sure to confirm with the driver that you're going to Fortaleza de São Miguel. The ride should take around 10-15 minutes depending on traffic, and once you arrive, you will be dropped off directly at the entrance of the fortress.

• Bicycle Rental

  If you're up for a bit of adventure, rent a bicycle from one of the bike-sharing stations in Luanda. Start from the waterfront area and cycle along Avenida 4 de Fevereiro. Follow the road that leads to Praça da República, then continue to Rua da Missão and up Calçada de São Miguel. The ride is approximately 3-4 kilometers and should take you around 15-20 minutes, depending on your cycling speed.
