Discover more about Dow's Hill Interpretation Centre

Dow's Hill Interpretation Centre, located in Nelson's Dockyard National Park, offers visitors an immersive journey through Antigua's history, from its Amerindian roots to the present day. Housed on the former estate of Archibald Dow, a Royal Navy official, the center provides panoramic views of English Harbour and the surrounding landscape. The site's history is as compelling as the views it offers. In 1789, the land was acquired to construct fortifications to protect the dockyard from land attacks. Dow's house was repurposed for senior officers and later became the Governor of the Leeward Islands' residence. An earthquake in 1834 destroyed the house, ending its occupation. In 1989, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) provided funding to establish the museum. Today, the Interpretation Centre features a multimedia presentation that recounts Antigua's history, engaging exhibits, a café, and a gift shop. Visitors can explore the pivotal role the island played in the Caribbean's historical narrative. The center also offers walking tours to nearby historic sites. The blend of historical insight and scenic beauty makes Dow's Hill Interpretation Centre a must-visit destination.
