Discover more about Museo Casa Padilla

Museo Casa Padilla, situated in the heart of San Miguel de Tucumán, stands as a testament to the city's rich history and cultural heritage. Housed in a striking Italianate mansion built around 1860, the museum once belonged to Don Ángel Padilla and his wife, Lastenia Frías, a family deeply rooted in Tucumán's traditions. The house itself is a remarkable example of Italianate architecture, featuring eighteen rooms, four patios, and connecting corridors. The architecture reflects the style of a traditional 'casa chorizo' (a type of long, narrow house with rooms arranged along one or both sides of a corridor), adorned with pilasters, balustrades, moldings, marble, and wrought iron. The museum's collection is diverse, featuring European paintings, Hispano-American objects reflecting the colonial past, and a valuable collection of oriental, mostly Chinese, pieces. These items were donated to the province by Ernesto Padilla (h). Visitors can also admire original furnishings belonging to the Padilla family and explore thematic rooms displaying paintings and furniture. Originally built around 1750 for Diego Domínguez, the house underwent several transformations before becoming the residence of the Padilla family. In 1972, the house was acquired by the government of Tucumán, and in 1976, it was inaugurated as a museum. Today, Museo Casa Padilla is a declared National Historical Monument, preserving the legacy of a prominent family and showcasing a significant collection of art and historical artifacts.
