    The Amerind Museum & Texas Canyon Nature Preserve is located off of I-10, approximately an hour east of Tucson. Take Exit #318 (Dragoon Road) and follow the signs to the museum. Parking is available on site. Note that the main property gates close promptly at 5:00 PM.

  • Public Transport

    While there isn't direct public transportation to the Amerind Museum, you can take an Amtrak train from Tucson to Benson. From the Benson Amtrak station, you would need to take a taxi or rideshare service to the museum, which is about a 17-minute drive. Taxi/rideshare cost is estimated at $6-$8.

The Amerind Museum, located in Dragoon, Arizona, is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Native American cultures and their histories, from Alaska to South America and from the last Ice Age to the present. Founded in 1937 by archaeologist William Shirley Fulton, the museum houses a vast collection of artifacts, art, and historical materials related to the Indigenous peoples of the Americas. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing archaeology, Native cultures, and Western art. The Fulton-Hayden Memorial Art Gallery features works by both Anglo and Native American artists, with a focus on Western themes and contemporary Native American art. The museum store offers a variety of southwestern arts, crafts, and books. In addition to the museum, the Amerind Foundation also encompasses the Texas Canyon Nature Preserve, opened to the public in the fall of 2023. This preserve features over 8 miles of self-guided walking trails through the iconic Texas Canyon landscape, known for its balanced boulders and unique rock formations. The trails offer moderate difficulty and provide opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and nature photography.
