Pinnacle Mountain West Summit Trail: A Climb with a View

The West Summit Trail is a 1.5-mile out-and-back hike that ascends Pinnacle Mountain, a prominent peak in Pinnacle Mountain State Park. The trail begins near the park's picnic area and immediately starts to climb, with an elevation gain of approximately 750 feet. The path is rocky and can be strenuous, requiring hikers to navigate uneven terrain and large boulders. Yellow blazes painted on the rocks mark the recommended route. About two-thirds of the way up, hikers can choose between an easier, curved section or a more direct and challenging path over boulders. The final stretch to the summit involves some scrambling, but safety railings are in place at some spots. At the summit, hikers are rewarded with 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape. From this vantage point, you can see Lake Maumelle, the Arkansas River Valley, the Ouachita Mountains, and the city of Little Rock. The summit is rocky and offers space to rest and enjoy the scenery. The West Summit Trail is a popular hike, so expect to encounter other people on the trail, especially on weekends. The trail is open year-round, but it can be icy in the winter.
