4.4

Adelaide Zoo, a verdant escape in the heart of the city, has been captivating visitors since its opening on May 23, 1883. As Australia's second oldest zoo, it proudly retains many of its original buildings and garden designs, some of which are state heritage listed. The zoo was founded by the South Australian Acclimatization and Zoological Society, later becoming the Royal Zoological Society of South Australia. Home to more than 3,000 animals representing 250 species, the zoo offers a diverse glimpse into the animal kingdom. Visitors can encounter iconic creatures such as the Giant Pandas, Wang Wang and Fu Ni, as well as Sumatran Tigers, Giraffes, Komodo Dragons, and a wide array of native Australian animals. The zoo is actively involved in conservation efforts, both locally and globally. Adelaide Zoo provides a range of experiences, including keeper talks and the Free Flight Bird Show. The zoo also offers opportunities for close encounters with some animals through special Animal Experiences. The Adelaide Zoo is open every day from 9:30am to 5pm.
