    Chateau Yaldara is located at 159 Hermann Thumm Dr, Lyndoch SA 5351. From Lyndoch, head east on Barossa Valley Way/B30, then turn right onto Hermann Thumm Dr. The chateau will be on your left. Parking is available on-site. Parking is free.

    Public Transport

    From Adelaide, take a train to Gawler Central Station. From Gawler Central Station, transfer to the 492A or 492C bus towards Lyndoch. Alight at Stop 124 Lyndoch Rd, Gawler East. From there, it is approximately a 6-minute taxi ride to Chateau Yaldara. A taxi or rideshare from Gawler to Chateau Yaldara will cost approximately $20-$30. The train and bus journey from Adelaide to Gawler East will cost around $15.

Originally established in 1847 as a flax mill, the property was purchased by Hermann Thumm in 1947, who transformed it into the renowned Chateau Yaldara winery. The name 'Yaldara' comes from a local Aboriginal word meaning 'sparkling'. The stunning 1960s Baroque-style chateau is the centerpiece of the estate, offering visitors a glimpse into a bygone era. The grounds are meticulously maintained, providing a beautiful setting for wine tasting and relaxation. Inside the cellar door, guests can explore a range of wines, including regional classics and fortified wines, while immersing themselves in the chateau's history. A self-guided history tour is available for $10 per person, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the winery's origins. All wine tasting experiences include the self-guided history tour free of charge. Chateau Yaldara's winemaking team produces approximately sixty batches of wine each year from the 72.6-hectare vineyard, specializing in a wide range of wines, including dry and sparkling white wines, red wines, sweet wines, and fortified wines. The winery has received numerous awards, including the 2015 Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir, which was voted the Best Sparkling Wine in Australia in 2019. Visitors can relax on the lawns and gardens with a glass of wine purchased from the cellar door. While winery and vineyard tours are not available due to quarantine measures, the cellar door offers daily experiences and tastings.
