Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Armidale, which is about 45 minutes away. Head south on the New England Highway (A43) towards Tamworth. After approximately 30 kilometers, take the exit towards Black Mountain. Continue on Black Mountain Road for about 10 kilometers until you reach the Thunderbolts Cave sign. Follow the signs to the parking area, where you'll find a designated spot to leave your vehicle.
Public Transportation
For those using public transport, take a bus from Armidale to Tamworth. Check the local bus schedules for timings. Once you arrive in Tamworth, you can catch a connecting bus to Black Mountain. Upon reaching Black Mountain, it's about a 5-kilometer walk to Thunderbolts Cave from the bus stop. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry water, as the walk can be hilly and is mostly on dirt paths.
Walking
If you're already in Black Mountain, you can walk to Thunderbolts Cave. Head south on Black Mountain Road from the center of town. After about 3 kilometers, look for the signs indicating the entrance to Thunderbolts Cave. The path is well-marked, but be prepared for some uneven terrain.
