Discover more about Casino Zögernitz

Casino Zögernitz, nestled in Vienna's Döbling district, is a historic landmark that has captivated Viennese society since its opening on July 21, 1837. Founded by Ferdinand Zögernitz, this Biedermeier-style residence quickly became a popular meeting place, boasting a richly decorated hall and a beautiful garden. Throughout the 19th century, Casino Zögernitz was a vibrant entertainment hub, hosting concerts and balls by renowned composers such as Carl Michael Ziehrer, Joseph Lanner, and Johann Strauss father and son. Johann Strauss himself organized a large Viennese folk festival at the casino in 1850. The venue also featured performances by folk singers and comedians. In 1913, Alfred and Maria Stegbauer took over the casino, adding an open-air cinema in 1920. The casino faced damage during World War I, leading to a new building in 1926 that maintained the old Viennese style. Major recordings of early and classical music have been made in the Strauss Hall since 1967. After a comprehensive renovation completed in 2022, the Zögernitz Garden Palace shines once again, blending historical preservation with modern technology. Today, Casino Zögernitz hosts cultural, musical, and social events, offering a unique glimpse into Vienna's rich heritage.
