Shirvan National Park, located in the Salyan region of southeastern Azerbaijan, is a protected area spanning over 54,000 hectares. Established in 2003, the park was created to safeguard the goitered gazelle and waterfowl, as well as the area's unique plant life. The park's territory was once part of the Caspian Sea floor, resulting in a flat, accumulative plain. The park's semi-desert landscape features salt-tolerant vegetation like Halocnemum, Halostachys, and Salicornia. These plants thrive in the park's solonchaks, or salty soils. The area attracts a diverse array of wildlife, including the endangered Persian gazelle, which the park has successfully reintroduced to other regions. Shirvan National Park is a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 270 species recorded. The park's location on the Caspian Sea coast makes it an important stopover for migratory birds. Visitors can spot flamingos, eagles, pelicans, and various waterfowl. Other animals found in the park include wild boars, jackals, jungle cats, wolves, and reptiles. Visitors can explore the park through marked hiking trails, offering views of the diverse landscapes and wildlife. Camping is permitted for those wishing to stay overnight.
