Discover more about Bhuban Mohon Park

Bhuban Mohon Park is a historical landmark in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, serving as a focal point for various movements and events. From 1948 to 1970, it was the center of political activity in Rajshahi. Originally, the site housed the Rajshahi Municipality office in 1920 before it was relocated. The park gained prominence during the Bengali Language Movement (1948-1954), a time when public gatherings were restricted. Activists assembled here to organize and advocate for the recognition of the Bengali language. A regional conference was held here on February 2, 1948, presided over by language activist Mohammad Sultan, where a resolution demanding Bengali be declared a state language was adopted. In 1953, a memorial was erected within the park to commemorate the martyrs of the Language Movement, solidifying its place as a symbol of Bengali identity and resistance. Throughout the 1960s, the park continued to be a hub for political activity, hosting rallies and gatherings led by prominent national figures, including Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and A.H.M. Kamaruzzaman. In 2005, the park was renovated, and a monument honoring the leaders of the Language Movement was constructed. Today, Bhuban Mohon Park offers a peaceful retreat from the urban environment. Visitors can stroll along its winding paths, relax under the shade of its trees, and reflect on the park's historical significance. The memorial dedicated to the Language Movement leaders serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of linguistic and cultural rights.
