Cascades de Coo: Belgium's Impressive Waterfalls
Experience the beauty and excitement of Les Cascades de Coo, featuring stunning waterfalls, panoramic views, and family-friendly attractions.
Les Cascades de Coo is one of the most famous waterfalls in Belgium, drawing visitors to the Ardennes region. The site's history dates back to the 15th century when the first small waterfall was formed. In the 18th century, monks from the Stavelot Abbey significantly altered the landscape by creating a larger waterfall to protect the village of Petit-Coo from flooding. They diverted a meander of the Amblève river, resulting in the impressive 15-meter cascade seen today. Over time, the Cascades de Coo evolved into a popular tourist destination. In 1955, a chairlift was installed, offering panoramic views of the area. The addition of the Plopsa Coo amusement park at the foot of the falls further enhanced its appeal, making it a family-friendly attraction. Visitors can also enjoy hiking trails, restaurants, and other outdoor activities in the surrounding area. The area around the falls also houses a pumping station, Coo-Trois-Ponts. The lower basin of the power plant is located in the cut-off meander. The two upper basins are located 270 meters higher on the Mont Saint-Victor.
