Walking
From the Hasselt city center, head north towards the main square, called 'Grote Markt'. Once you reach the square, follow the signs for the train station (station is called 'Hasselt Station'). Walk towards the station, which is about a 15-minute walk from the center. At the station, purchase a ticket to Leuven. The train ride takes approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at Leuven station, exit the station and turn right onto Diestsevest. Walk straight until you reach the first intersection, then turn left onto Rector de Somerplein. The Fonske statue is located at Rector de Somerplein 3, just a short walk from there.
Bus
From the Hasselt city center, walk to the bus station located at 'Stationstraat'. Look for bus line 21 or 22 that goes towards Leuven. The journey will take about 45 minutes. Once you arrive at the bus stop in Leuven, walk straight towards the city center. Follow the signs to Rector de Somerplein, which is a short 10-minute walk from the bus stop.
Train
Start at the Hasselt train station. Purchase a ticket to Leuven at the ticket counter or machines. Trains to Leuven run frequently, so check the schedule upon arrival. Once you board, enjoy the scenic ride, which takes around 30-40 minutes. After arriving at Leuven train station, exit the station, and follow the signs to the city center. You can walk straight down Diestsevest and turn left onto Rector de Somerplein. The Fonske statue will be located at Rector de Somerplein 3.
