Discover more about Jahorina Mountain

Jahorina Mountain, rising to a peak of 1,916 meters, stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of the Dinaric Alps. Its history is intertwined with the development of tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina, dating back to the late 19th century when Austro-Hungarians frequented the area for hunting and hiking. The mountain's organized tourism began in 1923, marked by the construction of the first hotel and the descent of the first skiers. Jahorina reached its zenith during the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, hosting the women's alpine skiing events and solidifying its place on the international stage. In 2019, the mountain again welcomed young athletes for the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival. Today, Olympic rings at the mountain's entrance serve as a reminder of this legacy. In winter, Jahorina transforms into a skiers paradise, boasting over 45 km of alpine trails and 10 km of Nordic trails. Modern lifts, including gondolas and six-seater cable cars, can transport up to 17,000 skiers per hour. Night skiing is available, and snowmaking systems ensure reliable conditions throughout the season. Beyond winter sports, Jahorina offers a variety of summer activities. Hiking trails, like the Health Trail and Love Trail, wind through lush forests, providing panoramic views and opportunities for recreation. Mountain biking, paragliding, and quad biking add to the adventurous appeal, while wellness programs and local gastronomy provide relaxation. The mountain air, rich in oxygen and ozone, is also considered beneficial for health tourism.
