Discover more about Krušnica Spring

Krušnica Spring, or Vrelo Krušnice, is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the Bosnian Krajina region. Located approximately 5 km from Bosanska Krupa, this natural spring offers visitors a tranquil escape into untouched natural beauty. The spring is renowned for its exceptionally clear and drinkable water, making it a unique and refreshing experience. The spring is the source of the Krušnica River, which is relatively short, with a length of 7 km, and maintains a constant temperature of around 10°C. The source of the river is impressively deep at 112 meters and is home to diverse speleo-fauna and fish. While classic fishing is prohibited, fly fishing is a popular activity along the river's course. The river's water originates from the karst relief of the Bosanski Petrovac area, showcasing a fascinating example of bifurcation. Surrounded by lush forests and picturesque landscapes, Krušnica Spring provides a calming and harmonious atmosphere. The sounds of flowing water and the vibrant greenery create an ideal setting for relaxation, meditation, and nature appreciation. Visitors can explore walking trails along the river, discover small waterfalls, and enjoy the diverse flora and fauna. The spring is also a popular spot for picnics and photography, with opportunities to capture the stunning reflections and natural colors. Just 200 meters below the spring, a hydroelectric power station, built in 1905 during the Austro-Hungarian era, still operates today, adding a historical element to the natural site. The Krušnica River eventually merges with the Una River, creating a complex of river islands (ada) near the center of Bosanska Krupa. Speleo-diving expeditions have confirmed that Krušnica Spring is an ecologically preserved environment with rich speleo-fauna and significant amounts of drinking water.
