Discover more about Crooked Bridge

Kriva Ćuprija, or Crooked Bridge, is a delightful historical landmark in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Constructed in 1558, it predates the iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge) by eight years and is believed to have served as a prototype for the larger structure. The bridge was built during Ottoman rule by architect Ćejvan Ketoda. Spanning the Radobolja River, a tributary of the Neretva, the Crooked Bridge features a single, slightly asymmetrical stone arch. This unique design gives the bridge its name and adds to its charm. The arch has a width of 8.56 meters and a height of 4.15 meters. Stone steps lead up to the bridge, and the footpath is paved with cobblestones. In December 2000, the Crooked Bridge was destroyed by severe flooding but was reconstructed in 2001 with funding from UNESCO and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Today, it stands as a symbol of Mostar's resilience and rich cultural heritage. The bridge is part of the Old Town of Mostar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located just 30 meters west of the Old Bridge, the Crooked Bridge offers a more tranquil experience than its famous counterpart. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque views of the Radobolja River and the surrounding traditional Bosnian architecture. The area around the bridge is filled with cafes and shops.
