Discover more about Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge

The Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge, or Ponte JK, is an iconic symbol of Brasília, Brazil, representing modern architectural and engineering ingenuity. Spanning 1,200 meters over Lake Paranoá, it connects the city center to the eastern shore, where Lago Sul and the Brasília International Airport are located. Designed by architect Alexandre Chan and structural engineer Mário Vila Verde, the bridge was constructed between 2000 and 2002, opening on December 15, 2002. Its most distinctive feature is the three 61-meter-high asymmetrical steel arches that support the deck, creating an illusion of a stone skipping across the water. The decks are suspended by steel cables alternating on each side, interlacing in a twisted plane. Named in honor of President Juscelino Kubitschek, who championed the construction of Brasília in the 1950s, the bridge has become a must-see attraction. It has received numerous accolades for its design and engineering. The bridge has two walkways for pedestrians and cyclists. Visiting during sunset or at night offers the best photographic opportunities, with the bridge illuminated against the sky.
