Discover more about Museu Brasileiro da Escultura e Ecologia

The Museu Brasileiro da Escultura e Ecologia (MuBE) is a cultural institution in São Paulo that uniquely blends art and nature. Opened in May 1995, the museum prioritizes sculpture and three-dimensional art forms. The building itself, designed by Paulo Mendes da Rocha, is an architectural landmark, seamlessly integrated with a garden designed by Burle Marx. The museum's history began with a neighborhood association seeking to prevent the construction of a shopping center on the site. The land was granted to the Sociedade de Amigos dos Museus (SAM) for 99 years by the São Paulo city government. The initial idea was to create a plaza, but the final structure features a garden on top and the museum below, constructed entirely of concrete without plaster or paint to maintain a simple aesthetic. MuBE has three indoor exhibition areas: the Grande Salão, the Sala Pinacoteca, and the Sala Burle Marx, as well as the Pedro Piva auditorium with a capacity of 192 people. The museum does not have a fixed collection but hosts various annual exhibitions. These exhibitions feature sculptures and other works by Brazilian and international artists. The museum also offers lectures, courses, seminars, and fairs. In addition, MuBE has launched a digital collection known as MuBE Virtual and hosts antique fairs and piano recitals every Sunday.
