Centro Histórico Mackenzie: A Glimpse into São Paulo's Educational Past

The Centro Histórico Mackenzie (Mackenzie Historical and Cultural Center) is located within the Mackenzie Presbyterian University's Higienópolis campus, in São Paulo. Housed in the Edifício Mackenzie (Mackenzie Building), also known as Building 1, its construction dates back to 1894-1896. This building initially housed the first private School of Engineering in Brazil, modeled after American educational standards. The building itself is a designated historical and cultural landmark, protected since 1990 by the state and municipal preservation agencies (Condephaat and Conpresp). Today, it functions as a cultural center and a space dedicated to preserving the institution's memory. The center's mission involves rescuing and preserving Mackenzie's institutional memory while offering diverse cultural activities. These activities encompass historical preservation, cultural events, and artistic endeavors. Visitors can explore the center's collection, which includes documents, school materials, and historical accounts from students and staff. The center also showcases the architecture of former students and professors in the central region of São Paulo.
