Praça das Artes, inaugurated in 2012, is a cultural complex in São Paulo that promotes music, dance, theater, and visual arts. It serves as an extension of the São Paulo Municipal Theater and houses the São Paulo Dance School, the São Paulo Municipal Music School, the Conservatory Hall, and the Municipal Theater's artistic groups.Located in the historic city center, the 28,500 square meter complex is one of Latin America's largest cultural centers. The Praça das Artes project aimed to create a mixed-use space, blending building and square, with access from Avenida São João, Anhangabaú Valley, and Conselheiro Crispiniano Street. The architectural project is by Francisco Fanucci, Marcelo Ferraz and Marcos Cartum.The complex is made up of the Municipal Symphonic and Experimental Repertory Orchestras, the Lyrical and São Paulo Choirs, the City Ballet Company, and the Municipal String Quartet. The former Dramatic and Musical Conservatory of São Paulo, an important historical and architectural landmark, was restored and incorporated into the complex. The building now holds a recital hall and exhibition space.Praça das Artes plays a strategic role in revitalizing the city center by prioritizing pedestrians. The complex has a rich program with a focus on musical and dance activities, as well as public spaces.
