Serra do Cipó National Park, nestled in the southern Serra do Espinhaço mountain range in Minas Gerais, Brazil, is a captivating destination for nature enthusiasts. Often called the "Garden of Brazil" by the famous landscape painter Roberto Burle Marx, this park protects an extraordinary number of plant species within its modest area. Created in September 1984, the park spans approximately 33,800 hectares across four municipalities: Jaboticatubas, Santana do Riacho, Morro do Pilar, and Itambé do Mato Dentro. Its geological history dates back 1.7 billion years, showcasing rock formations like limestone, quartzite, and granite. These formations originated from marine deposits sedimented at the bottom of an ancient ocean. The park's diverse topography features crystal-clear rivers, canyons, waterfalls, and caves. Visitors can explore the park's wonders on foot, by bike, or on horseback. Popular attractions include the Farofa Waterfall and the Bandeirinhas Canyon, offering breathtaking views and refreshing stream crossings. The park also boasts a large number of flower species that bloom throughout the year. Historically, the area was explored in the 18th century by enslaved people and bandeirantes searching for gold and precious stones. Today, it attracts adventurers seeking natural beauty and thrilling outdoor activities.
