Getting There

  • Public Transport

    To reach Lumut Lighthouse via public transport from Tutong Town, take a bus to the Lumut area. The journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes. From the Lumut bus stop, walk southeast on Jalan Lumut for about 1 km (15-20 minutes) towards the coast. Buses from Telisai to Liang operate approximately every hour for around BND 1.50. From Liang, a taxi to the lighthouse costs approximately BND 5 to BND 10.

  • Car

    If driving from Mukim Labu, head northwest on Jalan Muara towards Lumut. Continue until the junction with Jalan Lumut, turn left, and follow the road for approximately 10 kilometers. The lighthouse will be on your left at JCX5+QCR, Lumut, Liang. If you are driving from the center of Telisai, follow Jalan Telisai for about 12 kilometers until you reach a junction. At the junction, turn left onto the Lumut Highway (Jalan Lumut). Continue driving for another 5 kilometers, and you will see signs for Lumut Lighthouse. There is ample parking available near the lighthouse.

The Lumut Lighthouse, or Rumah Api Lumut, is a prominent landmark in Kampong Sungai Kayu Ara, within the Belait District of Brunei. Overlooking Lumut Beach, this active navigational beacon stands 32 meters (105 ft) tall and is painted in red, white, and blue. Completed in November 2004 and inaugurated in March 2005, the lighthouse serves as a crucial aid for ships navigating the South China Sea towards Lumut. Its light emits three white flashes every 15 seconds, with a range of 45 kilometers (28 mi). The lighthouse has been modernized with LED lighting. Initially managed by the Ports Department and the Marine Department, its administration was later transferred to the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD). In 2020, there were proposals to develop the lighthouse into a public attraction for educational visits and organized tours. Visitors can enjoy the views and explore the surrounding coastal paths.
