    From Highway 76, turn onto Guajome Lake Road and proceed to the park's main entrance. Follow signs to the Lower Picnic Area. Day-use parking is available for $5. Parking can be limited during peak times, so arrive early.

  • Public Transport

    From Oceanside, take the Sprinter tram to the Melrose Dr Station. From there, connect to the 303 bus, which will take you to N Santa Fe Ave & Adobe Estates Dr. From there it is about a 10-minute walk to the park. The tram costs $2-$7, and the bus costs $2-$5.

Guajome Regional Park has a rich history, dating back to the Luiseño Native Americans. In 1845, the land was granted to two Luiseño brothers by the last governor of Mexican California. Later, the land was gifted to Ysidora Bandini de Couts, whose husband constructed the Rancho Guajome Adobe hacienda. In the 1950s, Jerry Buteyn established a bird and animal collection on the property, adding to its appeal. The County of San Diego purchased the land in the 1970s, establishing the present-day park.
