Discover more about Pismo Preserve

The Pismo Preserve, a sprawling 880-acre coastal property, is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts seeking natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Opened to the public in January 2020, the preserve boasts over 11 miles of trails winding through diverse terrain, including serene oak woodlands, canyons, and coastal ridgelines. The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County (LCSLO) purchased the land in 2014 and manages it as a multi-use space for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. The preserve's trails offer something for everyone, from easy strolls to more challenging climbs. Popular routes include the 5.2-mile Discovery Trail, the 3.4-mile Spring to Spring Trail, and the 2.2-mile Lone Oak Trail. The Vamonos Canyon Trail, a shorter 0.75-mile path, is exclusively for hikers. As you explore, keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife that calls the preserve home, and enjoy the panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean stretching from the Irish Hills to Point Sal. The area has a rich history, once serving as grazing grounds for coastal cattle ranches and part of Rancho Pismo, a Mexican land grant. The LCSLO works closely with the Northern Chumash tribe, who consider the land and its burial grounds sacred. The Pismo Preserve is more than just a recreational space; it's a testament to conservation efforts. The Land Conservancy's goal is to conserve the land for future generations, restore and protect wildlife, and connect the community through education and volunteering.
