Discover more about Bishop Ranch Regional Preserve

Bishop Ranch Regional Preserve, also known as Bishop Ranch Regional Open Space Preserve, is an 806-acre park located on a ridge top at the edge of San Ramon. This natural area offers a peaceful retreat from the surrounding suburban environment. The preserve features three main multi-use trails, including the Grey Fox Trail and Red Tail Hawk Trail, and a hiking-only path called Stream View Trail. These trails wind through grasslands and blue oak groves, offering scenic views of the San Ramon Valley and Mount Diablo. The terrain can be steep in places, providing a good workout for hikers and bikers. Originally part of the 3,000-acre Norris Ranch, the land was acquired by Western Electric in 1955 and later purchased by Sunset Development Company in 1978. The East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) now operates the preserve, which serves as a natural area for observing wildlife and enjoying outdoor recreation. Visitors can spot animals such as deer, red-tailed hawks, and turkey vultures while exploring the preserve. The park is particularly beautiful in the spring when wildflowers bloom. While there are no dedicated picnic facilities, blanket picnicking is allowed.
