Discover more about Turlock Historical Society Museum

The Turlock Historical Society Museum, situated in the heart of downtown Turlock, is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the city's rich heritage. The museum is located in the beautifully restored Palace Meat Market building, which was built in 1910. The museum's exhibits feature a wide array of artifacts, photographs, and documents that narrate Turlock's evolution from its early days to the present. One highlight is the Family Life Display, depicting early home life with antique kitchenware, stoves, and washing machines. The museum also pays tribute to the diverse ethnic groups that have contributed to Turlock's cultural tapestry, including Hispanic, Assyrian, Portuguese, Japanese, and Scandinavian communities. A military display, sponsored by Major General John S. Patton, features military memorabilia and uniforms. The building itself has a rich history. Constructed in the California Mission style in 1910 by Albert Chatom, it initially housed the Palace Meat Market. Over the years, it served as a pool hall, barber shop, and shoe repair shop before being donated to the Turlock Historical Society in 1999. After renovations, it opened as a museum in August 2003. The Turlock Historical Society hopes that all visitors to the museum appreciate the newfound glory of the old Palace Meat Market building.
