Discover more about Glacier Point

Glacier Point, perched 3,214 feet above Curry Village, is a world-renowned overlook providing a breathtaking panorama of Yosemite Valley. From this vantage point, visitors can marvel at iconic landmarks such as Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, Vernal Fall, Nevada Fall, and Clouds Rest. Historically, Native Americans reportedly used the overhanging rock as a lookout, calling it "Patill-ima". In the late 1800s, the first formal trail, the Four Mile Trail, was constructed, followed by a stage road that was later improved for automobiles. Glacier Point quickly became a popular destination, with a hotel and dance pavilion built in the early 1900s. While these structures no longer stand, the views remain timeless. Today, Glacier Point is easily accessible by car during the summer and fall months. A short, paved, wheelchair-accessible trail leads from the parking area to the viewpoint. In winter, adventurous visitors can cross-country ski to Glacier Point. The area offers various activities, including birdwatching, hiking, stargazing, and ranger-led programs. Washburn Point, located just south of Glacier Point, offers similar views, with more direct perspectives of Vernal and Nevada Falls.
