Getting There

  • Public Transport

    To reach the Yosemite Valley Loop Trail using public transportation, take the free Yosemite Valley shuttle to the Lower Yosemite Fall Trailhead (shuttle stop #6). The Valleywide Shuttle serves all stops in Yosemite Valley, including lodges, food services, campgrounds and trailheads. Buses arrive every 12 to 22 minutes from 7 am to 10 pm. There are no additional costs beyond the park entrance fee.

  • Walking

    If you are already in Yosemite Valley, you can easily access the Valley Loop Trail by walking to the Lower Yosemite Fall Trailhead. From Yosemite Village, follow the bicycle path to the trailhead, adding approximately 0.5 miles (0.8 km) to your hike. There are signs for the Valley Loop Trail. There is no cost associated with walking to the trailhead.

  • Parking

    Parking is available at the Yosemite Village and Yosemite Falls parking areas. From there, walk to the Lower Yosemite Fall Trailhead to begin the loop. Parking fees are not charged separately, but a park entrance fee is required. As of July 2025, the entrance fee for a private vehicle is $35, valid for three consecutive days. During peak season (June 15 - August 15), a peak-hours reservation is required to enter the park between 6 am and 2 pm, in addition to the entrance fee. The reservation costs $2. Reservations can be made online in advance. Note: Yosemite National Park does not accept cash.

The Yosemite Valley Loop Trail presents a unique and accessible way to experience the grandeur of Yosemite National Park. This 11.5-mile (18.5 km) full loop, or 7.2-mile (11.6 km) half loop, primarily level trail meanders along the valley floor, offering stunning views of Yosemite's most famous landmarks while providing a sense of solitude away from the crowds. The trail follows many of the valley's first east-west trails and wagon roads, offering hikers a glimpse into Yosemite's past. As you traverse the loop, you'll be treated to views of Sentinel Rock, Cathedral Rocks, Bridalveil Fall, El Capitan, the Three Brothers, and Yosemite Falls. The path winds through meadows, forests, and along the Merced River, showcasing the diverse beauty of the valley. Starting near the Lower Yosemite Fall area (shuttle stop #6), the trail heads west along the base of the Three Brothers rock formation, passing Camp 4 before reaching El Capitan. For those opting for the half loop, crossing the Merced River at El Capitan Bridge leads back east towards Yosemite Village. The full loop continues west past El Capitan towards Bridalveil Fall. While the trail is open year-round, spring may bring localized flooding near creeks, and winter can bring snow and ice, requiring caution. Despite some sections near roads, much of the trail offers a peaceful experience amidst the stunning natural beauty of Yosemite Valley.
