Independence Beach, a kilometer-long stretch also known as 7-Chann Beach, offers a tranquil escape in Sihanoukville. The beach gets its name from the Independence Hotel, a seven-story structure at the north end. Locals often refer to the beach as 'otel bram-pil chann,' which translates to 'hotel 7-stories'.In the late 1950s, Prince Norodom Sihanouk envisioned Sihanoukville as a premier seaside resort, with Independence Beach embodying this vision of autonomy and luxury. The Independence Hotel, inaugurated in 1964, became a symbol of this era, hosting affluent travelers. Although the beach saw a decline during the civil conflict and Khmer Rouge regime, it has since re-emerged as a popular destination.Today, Independence Beach provides a calm and quiet seaside destination, ideal for relaxation and enjoying the natural surroundings.
