Located on Moncton's northern edge, Irishtown Nature Park spans 890 hectares (2,200 acres), offering a vast natural playground. The park's diverse ecosystem includes Acadian forests, varied terrain, marshlands, and a 1.2 square kilometer lake. Originally, the park served as Moncton's first water supply in the mid-19th century, and remnants of this history are displayed throughout the park. Today, Irishtown Nature Park is a popular destination for outdoor activities. Visitors can explore kilometers of maintained trails suitable for walking, running, and cycling. In winter, the trails are groomed for walking and snowshoeing. Birdwatching is a favorite pastime, with numerous species inhabiting the park, including chickadees, nuthatches, and woodpeckers. The park also features a restored one-room schoolhouse with a museum, offering a glimpse into the area's history. The park offers both surfaced gravel trails (4.7 km) suitable for strollers and wheelchairs and more challenging natural footpaths (6.9 km) for hiking. The Red Trail passes a dam that forms the reservoir. The former Moncton and Buctouche Railway line also runs through the park.
