The Battle Ground Hotel Museum offers a captivating glimpse into Niagara Falls' past, set within a historic hotel dating back to the early 19th century. Located on Lundy's Lane, the museum stands on the hallowed grounds of the Lundy's Lane Battlefield, one of the bloodiest battles fought on Canadian soil during the War of 1812. The restored 1850s tavern showcases furnished period rooms, offering a glimpse into village tavern life and early tourism. Costumed staff provide guided tours, sharing stories of the era and the battlefield's significance. Visitors can explore rooms like the Lady's Parlour, a haven for women, and the Tap Room, where men gathered to drink and discuss politics. The museum also displays artifacts from the War of 1812, providing insight into the battles and events that took place in the area. The Battle Ground Hotel Museum is the only surviving example in Ontario of a 19th-century tavern that thrived on tourism related to the War of 1812. The museum's preservation is thanks to Ruth Redmond, a local schoolteacher who recognized the importance of preserving the area's heritage.
