Araucanía International Airport (ZCO), also known as Temuco Airport, is the primary airport serving the Araucanía Region in southern Chile. Situated 21 kilometers south of Temuco, in the commune of Freire, it acts as a vital link connecting the region with the rest of the country. Inaugurated in July 2014, the airport replaced the former Temuco Maquehue Airport. The modern passenger terminal spans 5,000 square meters and features three boarding bridges. The airport has a parking area with space for four aircraft. Ongoing expansion projects aim to modernize and enlarge the airport. These projects include increasing the number of vehicle parking spaces to 508, expanding the aircraft platform, and constructing additional boarding bridges. These improvements will significantly increase the airport's capacity, allowing it to accommodate over 3 million passengers annually. Travelers can find various ground transportation options, including buses, taxis, and car rentals. The airport also offers amenities such as duty-free shops, shopping outlets, VIP lounges, and Wi-Fi.
